Reflections From 35000 Feet Up

I’m writing this post from an airplane. I’m in the sky somewhere around Texas or Mexico, and as I sit here and write, I’m reflecting on all of the blessings I’ve been able to experience today and the ones that I will get to experience throughout this trip.

This day might not have started out perfect. I woke up way earlier than my liking, ran into my ex at the airport, then we almost missed (or thought we almost missed) our connecting flight. And if that’s not enough, I’ve sprinted through an airport and am now stuck on a plane with a bunch of people I don’t know.

One would think that my day has been awful and that I’ve had a bad start to my vacation. After all of these experiences I could’ve just decided that this was going to be a terrible day and told myself, Screw it, Ashlyn. This day sucks and you’re going to have a bad attitude about it. But instead of thinking that way, I thought of these events more as obstacles than bad things. These obstacles made today what it is, will make the rest of our trip more meaningful, and will create memories to laugh about in the future.

In reality this day hasn’t been bad at all; it’s been fun and more like an adventure, and here’s why:

Over the past months I have trained myself to look at things more positively. I’ve realized that the bad things really aren’t that bad; they’re just there to give you experience and make you stronger. Everything happens for a reason even if it doesn’t seem like it at the moment. I urge you to think the same way.

For every bad thing that happens, think of a positive thing that can come out of that. For example, waking up super early this morning meant that I get to enjoy more of my day. Seeing my ex made me realize how much I cherish my current boyfriend and how happy my life has become since then. And sprinting through the airport (in flip flops btw) when there was actually no need to sprint gives my family something to laugh at in the future.

Thinking of these obstacles as blessings in disguise can bring so much more joy and positivity into your life. Throughout your daily life try to have a more positive outlook with everything that occurs, and I promise you’ll see a positive difference. Life is too short and too beautiful to ignore these hidden blessings.

With love,

Ashlyn

My Purpose

Who am I and what is this blog about?

“When sun shines, it not only brightens our day; it enlightens us, our soul, cleansing it of the gloominess that the night’s darkness had brought in.” — Tista Ray

During the harsh and bitterly cold winter months of the year, many of us look forward to the sunny, warm days of summer. While trapped in a rough semester that never seems to end, students (and teachers) dream of a vacation where they can relax, forget the stress, and soak up the sun. Although not everyone, most people associate the sun with happiness and a stress-free lifestyle. We long for the day when we can go outside and enjoy the comforting feeling of the sun’s rays warm on our skin.

My hopes for this blog is to create the feeling of sunshine through my writing. Right now you’re probably thinking to yourself, “How in the world is she going to do that?” but let me explain. I want to be able to give others the feelings of happiness and comfort through each and every one of my posts. I aspire to be an inspiration and a positive influence for anyone who needs the reassurance or possibly help out of a dark place. Even on the coldest and darkest of days, I hope every reader can feel at least a little bit of sunshine from what I have to say.

Now that you know what I aim to do, I should probably tell you a little more about myself. My name is Ashlyn, a teenage girl who loves to help others be happy. I’m a musician, a lover of my family, friends, and dog (don’t wanna brag, but I have the cutest dog in the world), a hard-working student, and now the owner of a blog. When I graduate from college my dream is to hopefully become a mental health counselor of some sort, and I want to teach others how to live a happy life. In many ways I’m using this blog as an outlet to share happiness through stories and personal experiences and to inspire people to make the most out of their lives before I’m able to pursue my dream career.

The majority of this blog will be happy stories and inspiration. I hope that you can join me on the journey of this blog and hopefully feel a bit of happiness from what I have to share with you. Feel free to email me at any time with questions, suggestions for posts, etc. (email is under the “contact” tab in the menu); I’d be happy to listen! It may take me a few days to reply, but I will get back to you eventually!

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope to share some more with you soon!
