I’m writing this post from an airplane. I’m in the sky somewhere around Texas or Mexico, and as I sit here and write, I’m reflecting on all of the blessings I’ve been able to experience today and the ones that I will get to experience throughout this trip.
This day might not have started out perfect. I woke up way earlier than my liking, ran into my ex at the airport, then we almost missed (or thought we almost missed) our connecting flight. And if that’s not enough, I’ve sprinted through an airport and am now stuck on a plane with a bunch of people I don’t know.
One would think that my day has been awful and that I’ve had a bad start to my vacation. After all of these experiences I could’ve just decided that this was going to be a terrible day and told myself, Screw it, Ashlyn. This day sucks and you’re going to have a bad attitude about it. But instead of thinking that way, I thought of these events more as obstacles than bad things. These obstacles made today what it is, will make the rest of our trip more meaningful, and will create memories to laugh about in the future.
In reality this day hasn’t been bad at all; it’s been fun and more like an adventure, and here’s why:
Over the past months I have trained myself to look at things more positively. I’ve realized that the bad things really aren’t that bad; they’re just there to give you experience and make you stronger. Everything happens for a reason even if it doesn’t seem like it at the moment. I urge you to think the same way.
For every bad thing that happens, think of a positive thing that can come out of that. For example, waking up super early this morning meant that I get to enjoy more of my day. Seeing my ex made me realize how much I cherish my current boyfriend and how happy my life has become since then. And sprinting through the airport (in flip flops btw) when there was actually no need to sprint gives my family something to laugh at in the future.
Thinking of these obstacles as blessings in disguise can bring so much more joy and positivity into your life. Throughout your daily life try to have a more positive outlook with everything that occurs, and I promise you’ll see a positive difference. Life is too short and too beautiful to ignore these hidden blessings.
